Welcome to West Virginia

Discover breathtaking mountains, charming small towns and unforgettable outdoor adventures in the heart of Appalachia.

If you love beautiful mountain scenery, peaceful forests and the freedom of exploring places away from the busiest tourist destinations, West Virginia deserves a place on your travel list.

Known as the Mountain State, West Virginia is located in the Appalachian region of the eastern United States. Its landscape is filled with forested mountains, winding rivers, spectacular valleys and charming small towns.

One of the things I particularly like about West Virginia is the variety of experiences you can enjoy. You can spend the morning hiking through beautiful countryside, discover a historic town in the afternoon and finish your day relaxing in a cosy mountain cabin.

Discover the New River Gorge

One of West Virginia’s most spectacular destinations is New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.

The park is famous for its dramatic river gorge, impressive bridge and excellent opportunities for hiking, climbing and whitewater rafting.

The nearby town of Fayetteville is a wonderful base for exploring the area.

Explore the Mountain Towns

West Virginia has plenty of charming communities worth discovering.

Harpers Ferry, located where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet, offers beautiful scenery and fascinating American history.

Lewisburg is another attractive destination, with historic streets, independent shops and welcoming restaurants.

For a mountain getaway, consider visiting Davis and Thomas, two small towns surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

When Should You Visit?

West Virginia is a destination for every season.

Spring brings green forests and flowing waterfalls, while summer is ideal for hiking, kayaking and outdoor adventures.

Autumn is particularly beautiful, when the mountain forests turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold.

Winter offers skiing and snowboarding at mountain resorts such as Snowshoe.

Whether you are planning a relaxing weekend or an adventurous road trip, West Virginia is a place where the journey itself can become one of your favourite holiday memories.
