Lewisburg – Historic Streets, Food and Small-Town West Virginia

Lewisburg is one of the West Virginia towns I would happily visit without a long attraction checklist. Its appeal is the combination of historic buildings, independent shops, restaurants and a compact center that actually invites you to slow down.

A town made for wandering

Park once and explore on foot. Downtown is the sort of place where browsing a bookstore, stopping for coffee and looking at old façades can fill more time than expected.

Lewisburg also works well as a base for the Greenbrier Valley. The famous Greenbrier resort at White Sulphur Springs is nearby, but you do not need to be staying at the resort to enjoy this part of the state.

Give it an evening

I prefer Lewisburg when it is more than a lunch stop. Stay into the evening, choose a local restaurant and let the town be part of the trip rather than a gap between mountain attractions.

Who will like it?

If your West Virginia itinerary has been heavy on hiking and driving, Lewisburg provides a useful change of pace. It is particularly good for couples, food-oriented travelers and anyone who enjoys historic small towns without needing a major landmark every hour.
